§ Mr. Steenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he is satisfied that the United Kingdom Immigration Advisory Service is functioning effectively and discharging its duties efficiently;
(2) what steps he is taking in the light of the recommendations made by his Department with regard to the future of the United Kingdom Immigration Advisory Service.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesThe hon. Member is mistaken in supposing that my Department has made recommendations about the future of the United Kingdom Immigrants Advisory Service. I have no ministerial responsibility for the service except to satisfy myself, which I have done, that it makes effective use of the grant paid to it under Section 23 of the Immigration Act 1971.
