§ Mr. Harry EwingThe number of crimes of violence against the person made known to the police in Scotland in 1976 was 1.6 per cent. above the corresponding figure for 1975 and 45.9 per cent. above the corresponding figure for 1966. The 1976 figure is provisional. For comparison with 1966 it has been adjusted to take account of a break in comparability between 1974 and 1975. The break in comparability is explained in Criminal Statistics, Scotland 1975 (Cmnd. 6631).
