Earl FERRERS

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To state (a) the number of court orders for possession which have been granted; (b) the number of warrants for eviction which have been issued by the courts and (c) the number of evictions which have taken place in each of the years 1970–75 against occupiers of—1. Agricultural tied cottages; 2. Tied cottages belonging to nationalised industries and government departments; 3. all other tied cottages; and 4. local authority houses.

Baroness BIRK

The numbers of orders for possession granted against agricultural tied cottage occupants in England and Wales in each of the years 1970–75 are set out in the table below.

Year Orders Granted Year Orders Granted
1970 858 1973 1,184
1971 847 1974 1,183
1972 1,025 1975 1,268

The numbers of orders for possession granted against tenants of local authorities, housing associations and new town development corporations in England and Wales have been collected only since 1975. In that year there were 29,105, which is about one-quarter the rate for agricultural tied cottages. I regret that the other information requested is not available.
