HL Deb 27 October 1976 vol 376 cc616-7WA
Lord SUDELEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What property is owned or leased in connection with the British Embassy and Consulate in Moscow, including the Commercial Section and accommodation for families, and what approaches have been made by the Soviet Government with a view to evacuation of the Embassy building on the Sofiiskaya Naberezhnaya.

Lord GORONWY-ROBERTS

The premises occupied by the British Embassy in Moscow comprise 93 units of accommodation leased from the Soviet Government Diplomatic Service Bureau. These include the offices, among the Consular and Commercial Sections, and living accommodation for the staff. We understand that the Soviet authorities have a planning policy for the area in which the Embassy is situated, but we have received no formal notice to leave the premises.
