HC Deb 21 October 1976 vol 917 cc547-8W
Mrs. Wise

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what steps he took to ascertain the views of women workers before making the Operations at Unfenced Machinery (Amendment) Regulations 1976;

(2) which trade unions he consulted before making the Operations at Unfenced Machinery (Amendment) Regulations 1976.

Mr. John Grant

The Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission informs me that the Operations at Unfenced Machinery (Amendment) Regulations 1976 followed the amendment to Section 15(2) of the Factories Act 1961 made by the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 and that before the regulations were made there were consultations with the Trades Union Congress in accordance with the requirements of Section 50 of the Health and Safety at Work, etc., Act 1974.

Mrs. Wise

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many accidents involving unfenced machinery have occurred since the enactment of the Health and Safety at Work Act, etc. 1974, or other nearest equivalent convenient period.

Mr. John Grant

The Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission informs me that the information in the form required is not available.
