asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department by what percentage the West Midlands Police Force is below establishment strength; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Summerskill

12.8 per cent. in an authorised establishment of 6,509. The strength has grown by 118 since the beginning of the financial year, and the police authority has made provision for total growth of 240 by 31st March 1977.
