HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 cc837-8W
Mr. Giles Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give reasons for his decision to take over the remaining area of Seal Sands, Teesside for industrial development against the findings of the planning inquiry in June 1975.

Mr. Freeson

Final decisions by the Secretary of State about the Teesside, East Cleveland and West Cleveland Structure Plans have yet to be taken. Draft modifications to the plans proposed by the Secretary of State have been advertised and placed and deposited. The reasons for the major modifications proposed are included in the documents placed on deposit and I am sending the hon. Member a copy of that part of the documentation which relates to the Seal Sands area.

We are now within the statutory period during which objections and representations may be made on the draft modifications and this period lasts until 13th December. All objections and representations received will be considered by the Secretary of State before he makes his final decisions on the plans.
