HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 cc877-8W
Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has as to what happens to the approximately 12,000 primates which are imported each year.

Mr. Bishop

Our anti-rabies quarantine records show that about 97 per cent. of imported primates go to research laboratories, either directly, where the laboratories have their own authorised quarantine premises, or after undergoing quarantine elsewhere. Most of the remaining 3 per cent. go to zoos, with a few to private owners.
