asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many officers are permitted to use NHS official cars regularly for office to home travel.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what has been the cost to the NHS over the last 12 months of (a) official cars, (b) mileage paid to officers using their own cars, and (c) travel by public transport.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services who are allowed to use NHS official cars; and what is the practice regarding the use of these cars for journeys which can be readily undertaken by public transport.

It is open to NHS authorities to allow members or officers to use official cars where this is necessary for the proper discharge of their duties having regard to economy, efficiency, and the availability of public transport.
