HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 c839W
Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how far county councils in England have complied with the provision of the Caravan Sites Act 1968 and have provided permanent sites to which gipsies and other itinerants can be directed.

Mr. Marks

There are now thought to be over 7,000 gipsy families in England; county councils and London borough councils have so far provided accommodation for about 1,520 caravans on permanent sites and for about 530 caravans on temporary sites.
