HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 c935W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he proposes to make available more accommodation in the geriatric wards of the hospitals in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Carter

At present there are 2,313 hospital beds specifically allocated for geriatric purposes. By 1980 it is hoped that 2,648 geriatric beds—approximately 15 per 1,000 of the elderly population—will be available.
