HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 c905W
Mr. Watt

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the relative benefit to be gained from continued membership of the EEC in comparison with the value of the potential contained in the 200-mile exclusive limits round Great Britain's coast; and if he will publish the relevant statistics.

Mr. Bishop

I have been asked to reply.

It is presumed that the hon. Member is referring to fishery limits. I regret that it is not possible to make the estimates referred to because negotiations on fishing opportunities both within the Community and with Third Countries have not yet been completed; and because any appraisal of the effect of non-membership of the Community must be pure speculation.
