HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 c891W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the statement of the Chief Secretary, in reply to a parliamentary Question, Official Report, column 502, for 16th November 1976, that by April 1979 child tax allowances for children under 11 years of age should be entirely phased out, leaving only residual allowances for older children which will themselves be subsumed in child benefit as soon as possible thereafter, is based on a decision that child benefits themselves will be age-related for older children as soon as possible after April 1979; and whether he will undertake that those residual tax allowances for older children will not be reduced until equivalent age-related child benefits are introduced.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

I will write to the hon. Member.
