HL Deb 16 November 1976 vol 377 c1276WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much the "green pound" maintained at current level, contributes to unemployment in agriculture and the food processing industries.

Lord STRABOLGI

Her Majesty's Government have no evidence to suggest that the level of the Green Pound is contributing to unemployment in agriculture and the food processing industries generally. We are, of course, aware of the problems facing manufacturers of processed pigmeat products and my right honourable friend the Minister of Agriculture will continue to press in the Council of Ministers for action to correct anomalies in the operation of the MCA System. On the question of employment in Northern Ireland meat plants, I would refer the noble Lord to the answer given by my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland on 12th November to a Question from the Member for Londonderry (Mr. Ross.).

House adjourned at eighteen minutes past nine o'clock.
