§ Mr. Grimondasked the Secretary of State for Energy what progress is being made with the experiments on the generation of energy by the tides and waves.
§ Mr. EadieTwo studies on tidal power have been commissioned by the Department. The first is an assessment of the effects of a barrage on the tidal regime in and around the Severn Estuary and the second is an examination of the problems of making a closure. Both studies are now well advanced and my right hon. Friend expects to receive reports in the near future and to publish them.
The progress on wave energy research was given to the House on 25th October.
