HL Deb 15 November 1976 vol 377 c1107WA
The Earl of SELKIRK

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the two parts of the M27 are likely to be joined and whether, pending this date, appropriate signs can be placed to enable motorists to go from one to the other.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of ENVIRONMENT (Baroness Birk)

Subject to the continuing availability of funds and the satisfactory completion of the outstanding statutory procedures, some of which are currently the subject of a public inquiry, the central section of the M27 between Chilworth and Hedge End should be completed in 1980. The contract completion date for the section under construction between Hedge End and Windhover is April 1978. My right honourable friend's Department is discussing with the police the practicability of signposting a route or routes for traffic to follow between the two completed parts of the motorway.
