asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the deficit or vacancies for qualified teachers in secondary schools in England and Wales in each of the following subjects for each of the years 1965 to 1975; metalwork, engineering and workshop practice and technical drawing.

Teacher shortage in any subject is defined as the sum of the vacant posts for teachers of any particular subject plus the number of teachers the schools would like to have of teachers of that subject.

Teacher surplus is defined as the number of teachers of any particular subject whom the schools would like to exchange for teachers described above.
