§ Mr. Reidasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what amount of public expenditure cuts affects prison establishments in Scotland; and where the economies are to be made.
§ Mr. Harry EwingPlanned expenditure on the Scottish prison capital building programme over the period from 1975–76 to 1978–79 has been reduced by £7.5 million. Building schemes in progress will not be affected, but starts on two major projects have been deferred indefinitely. Economies will be required in most areas of non-capital expenditure in order to hold expenditure to the present level.
