asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether Her Majesty's Government will accept the Sultan of Brunei's offer to continue supporting a battalion of the Gurkha Rifles in Brunei.

Subject to consultations with the Sultan on the timing it remains our intention to withdraw the Gurkha battalion from Brunei.
