HC Deb 02 November 1976 vol 918 c572W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his estimate of the effect of a 10 per cent. devaluation of the green pound on the price of meat, potatoes, fruit and vegetables.

Mr. Bishop

A devaluation of the green pound would increase United Kingdom support prices for beef and pigmeat and reduce the MCAs on them, but it is not possible to estimate the precise effect of a 10 per cent. change. The prices of lamb and poultry meat would not be directly affected but might be influenced by any change in the prices of beef and pigmeat. I would not expect any significant effects on the prices of fruit and vegetables, including potatoes.
