asked the Prime Minister what steps he is taking to ensure that the House takes part in the great national debate on educational standards which he proposed in his Oxford speech of 18th October.

I recognise the importance of having these matters debated both inside and outside the House. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science will be putting forward proposals on the issues under discussion and in due course my right hon. Friend the Lord President of the Council will no doubt consider the hon. Member's suggestion.
