HC Deb 02 November 1976 vol 918 cc545-6W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many copies of leaflet CH1 (T) on the new child benefit have been distributed; at what total cost; and why the number of such circulars despatched to sub-postmasters in various Suffolk villages vastly exceeded the population of those villages.

Mr. Orme

The total cost of distributing 12 million copies of the leaflet CH1 (T) is estimated at £9,000.

Arrangements for the distribution of leaflets to individual sub-postmasters are made by the Post Office, but I understand that with a large task like child benefit it is more economic to distribute leaflets on a general scale than to attempt to be specific.

Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the cost of producing and distributing his Department's leaflet CH1 (T) which relates to the child benefit scheme.

Mr. Orme

The cost of producing and distributing leaflet CH1 (T) is estimated to be £156,580.
