HC Deb 02 November 1976 vol 918 cc547-8W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many cases of brain damage to children, following whooping cough vaccinations, have been reported as confirmed to his Department; and if he will list them numerically by regional health authority area;

(2) what medical tests are given to children known to be suffering from brain damage before they are vaccinated against whooping cough;

(3) what routine medical inquiries are made by doctors concerning the medical

geriatric beds there are in hospitals in north-east Essex compared to the number of retirement pensioners in the Harwich parliamentary constituency: and how this provision of geriatric beds compares with other parliamentary constituencies in England and Wales.

Mr. Moyle

Information is not available for parliamentary constituencies, but for the Colchester health district the average daily number of available geriatric beds per 1,000 population aged 65 and over in 1975 was 7.37; the corresponding figure for England was 8.46.
