HC Deb 02 November 1976 vol 918 c556W
Mr. Welsh

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, in the light of the current fall in the workload of architectural practices in Scotland, what steps he is taking to ensure the survival of these professional services in Scotland.

Mr. McElhone

My Department keeps in close touch with the situation and is presently in communication with the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and with the Royal Institute of British Architects on the problems facing architectural practices in the light of the current fall in work load. On work for which the Scottish Office is directly responsible, a balance is aimed at between professional work carried out by architects in the public service and in private practice.
