HC Deb 28 May 1976 vol 912 cc395-6W
Mr. James Johnson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking to alter the EEC Cod Import Regulation No. 1019/76 regarding suepension of imports of fresh or chilled cod and to protect the British market from the imports flood of processed frozen cod fillets.

Mr. Bishop

We consider the most productive way to deal with the problems which may arise from imports is revision of the marketing aspects of the common fisheries policy. My right hon. Friend has already taken the initiative on this point in the Council of Ministers on 6th April and I am glad to say his colleagues supported him in calling for early proposals from the Commission.
