HC Deb 26 May 1976 vol 912 cc255-6W
Mr. Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the number of schooldays lost by children due to truancy.

Mr. McElhone

School attendance is a matter within the responsibility of the education authorities and information on which to base an estimate is not available centrally. The Government are, however, aware of current concern about truancy. The Pack Committee of Inquiry into Truancy and Indiscipline in Schools in Scotland is investigating the general issue and will report to me in due course.
