asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is intended to continue the useful facilities for private consultation which many hospitals provide for their specialist staff.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

The Health Services Bill provides for the progressive withdrawal of facilities for private practice from NHS hospitals, including accommodation and services authorised for use in the treatment by hospital consultants of their private non-resident patients. This is in accordance with the Government's policy and to implement the proposals published on 15th December.
