HL Deb 18 May 1976 vol 370 cc1385-6WA
Lord TAYLOR

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When control of fees charged by specialists to patients in private beds in National Health Service hospitals was abolished and why this was done.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

This was done in 1969, following an announcement by the Minister of Health in 1966, as one of a number of measures taken in consultation with the medical profession which were designed to promote the more effective use of consultant manpower and hospital beds. The practical difficulties of administering the control were also a factor in the decision.

House adjourned at two minutes before nine o'clock.
