asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what was the total amount of money paid out in compensation to dependants of members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary killed by Irish Republican Army terrorists during each of the years 1970 to 1975, inclusive;

(2) what was the total amount of money paid out in compensation to members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary maimed by Irish Republican Army terrorists during each of the years 1970 to 1975, inclusive;

(3) what was the total amount of money paid out in compensation to dependants of members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserves killed by Irish Republican Army terrorists during each of the years 1970 to 1975, inclusive;

(4) what was the total amount of compensation paid to dependants of those killed by Irish Republican Army terrorists for each of the years 1970 to 1975 inclusive;

(5) what was the total amount of compensation paid to those who were maimed by Irish Republican Army terrorists for each of the years 1970 to 1975 inclusive;

(6) what was the total amount of money paid out in compensation to members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserves maimed by Irish Republican Army terrorists during each of the years 1970 to 1975, inclusive;

(7) what was the total amount of money paid out in compensation to dependants of members of the Ulster Defence Regiment killed by Irish Republican Army terrorists during each of the years 1970 to 1975, inclusive;

(8) what was the total amount of money paid out in compensation to members of the Ulster Defence Regiment maimed by Irish Republican Army terrorists during each of the years 1970 to 1975, inclusive;

(9) what was the total amount of money paid out in compensation to dependants of members of the Army killed by Irish Republican Army terrorists during each of the years 1970 to 1975, inclusive;

(10) what was the total amount of money paid out in compensation to members of the Army maimed by the Irish Republican Army during each of the years 1970 to 1975, inclusive.

Mr. Merlyn Rees,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 3rd May 1976; Vol. 910, c. 263–4], gave the following information:

Compensation payments to dependants of persons killed or to persons maimed as a result of criminal injuries are made under the Criminal Injuries to Persons (Compensation) Act (Northern Ireland) 1968. The information requested is not available because it is not necessary to attribute the criminal injury to a particular person or organisation, for a compensation claim under this Act to succeed.
