HL Deb 22 March 1976 vol 369 c534WA
Lord BRADWELL

asked Her Majesty's Government:

By what date it is expected that the Museum of London, in Aldersgate Street, will be open to the public; and whether, for the benefit of tourists and others wishing to visit it, as well as of residents of the Barbican, they will negotiate with London Transport the week-end reopening of the Barbican underground station, at present shut on Saturdays and Sundays.

Lord STRABOLGI

It is expected that the Museum will open to the public during December 1976 but the precise date has not yet been determined. London Transport proposes to reopen Barbican Station on Saturdays for a trial period of six months after the opening of the new Museum. Continuation of the Saturday opening will depend on how much additional use of the underground system the experimental reopening has generated. The station will remain closed on Sundays as in the view of London Transport reopening on that day would not be justified by the likely level of use.

House adjourned at nineteen minutes before eight o'clock.
