HC Deb 11 March 1976 vol 907 c284W
33. Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will allow prisoners charged with an offence that carries a punishment of loss of remission to have the right to be represented at the hearing.

Dr. Summerskill

Any offence under the Prison Rules may be punished by forfeiture of remission. Representation of a prisoner charged with offences was one of the matters considered by a departmental working party on adjudication procedures in prisons, whose report was published last August. We have invited the comments of boards of visitors and governors of all prison department establishments and are considering the recommendations in the report in the light of the comments received. If my hon. Friend has any points he would like taken into consideration, we shall be glad to receive them.
