§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) if he will introduce legislation whereby (a) the Government, and (b) the workers are entitled to make nominations for the chairmanships of nationalised boards for decision by election by the work force of the relevant industry;
(2) if he will introduce legislation to provide for the election of board members by the work force at the nationalised industries using a postal ballot system.
§ Mr. KaufmanMy right hon. Friend is under a statutory duty to appoint the chairmen of the nationalised industries for which he is responsible and, after consultation with relevant chairmen, the members of the boards of those industries. The rôle of employees in relation to decision making within the nationalised industries is currently being considered by the Government.
