HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 cc682-3W
Mr. Ernest G. Perry

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) how many contracts were made by the National Water Council for the purchase of water fittings and taps during 1975; and what percentage went to EEC countries;

(2) whether the National Water Council or its subsidiary authorities invite the countries in the EEC to tender for water taps and fittings.

Mr. Denis Howell

The National Water Council and the water authorities do not purchase water taps and fittings for resale in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Ernest G. Perry

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to ensure that water taps and fittings imported from Europe into the United Kingdom comply with United Kingdom standards.

Mr. Denis Howell

At present, I see no need to do so.
