HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 c736W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many and what percentage of men aged between 60 and 64 years are estimated to be unemployed and to be unable to work because of their state of health, respectively.

Mr. Meacher

In May 1975 there were about 110,000 men aged between 60 and 64 who were registered as unemployed, representing about 7.5 per cent. of the estimated male population in that age group. About 214,000 such men were receiving sickness, invalidity or injury benefits on 1st June 1974—some 15 per cent. of the male population in the 60 to 64 age group at the time. Figures for a later date are not available.
