HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 cc736-7W
Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what will be the proportion of public expenditure on health and personal social service allocated to the North-West Region in 1977, 1978 and 1979; and how this compares with the period 1974 to 1976.

Mr. Meacher

Regional health authorities have been notified of capital and revenue allocations for 1976–77, and of provisional capital planning assumptions for 1977–78 and 1978–79. Loan sanction programmes for personal social services capital projects for 1976–77 and later years have not yet been determined. Revenue expenditure on the personal social services in a particular region is not settled centrally, but by the local authorities concerned in the light of general guidance given by the central Government following the rate support grant negotiations for the year concerned.

The North Western Regional Health Authority's allocations as a proportion of the total for England are as follows:

Financial year Capital Percentage Current Percentage
1973–74* 8.6 9.2
1974–75 7.7 8.4
1975–76 9.0 8.3
1976–77 9.3 8.4
1977–78 8.2 n/a
1978–79 8.2 n/a
