HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 c717W
39. Mr. Boscawen

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the estimated cost to the revenue if the £1,500 limit for self-employed retirement annuity contributions allowable for income tax relief were to be raised approximately in line with the cost of living index since the 1971 increase (1) for all age groups and (2) for those over 55 years of age.

Mr. Denzil Davies

On the assumption that all persons eligible were to increase their contributions to the new maximum, the estimated cost for all age groups would be of the order of £25 million. I regret that information is not available with which to compute a cost for those over 55 years of age.
