HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 cc725-6W
Mr. R. C. Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much of the reduction in current expenditure on primary education from £1,232.9 million in 1976–77 to £1,158 million in 1979–80, as stated in the White Paper on Public Expenditure, he expects to come from administration, teaching staff and books and equipment, respectively.

Mr. Mulley

The expenditure forecasts in the White Paper "Public Expenditure to 1979–80" (Cmnd. 6393) refer to Great Britain as a whole. In England and Wales current expenditure on primary education is expected to fall from £1,097 million in 1976–77 to £1,035 million in 1979–80 at 1975 Survey prices. It is not possible to attribute a specific reduction to each of the items mentioned.
