HC Deb 04 March 1976 vol 906 c706W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many schools in Ayrshire are affected by loss of designation payments and loss of travel allowance to teachers; what impact this has had on staffing in different specialities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. William Ross

Two secondary schools in Ayrshire were designated as schools of teacher shortage in the scheme which ended on 31st July 1975. I understand that the education authority concerned has so far continued to pay travelling expenses to teachers in these schools. It is not possible to establish whether there is any relationship between the ending of the designated schools scheme and the current staffing position in these two schools.
