asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the latest figure for the average household expenditure; and what is the estimated content of this figure made up by value added tax payments.

It is estimated that in 1974 average household expenditure in the United Kingdom was £46.13 a week, of which about £2.30 was value added tax.
