HC Deb 02 March 1976 vol 906 c494W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will take steps to ensure that imported high fidelity equipment conforms to BEAB regulations to be introduced on 1st April.

Mr. Alan Williams

The British Electrotechnical Approvals Board for Household Equipment (BEAB) is a non-statutory body concerned with the approval of equipment complying with British Standards and does not make regulations. Domestic audio equipment comes within the scope of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1975. All such equipment offered for sale in this country, whether imported or made in the United Kingdom, will be required to comply with these regulations, which will come into force on 1st April 1976 for manufacturers and importers and 1st October 1976 for wholesalers and retailers.
