HC Deb 02 March 1976 vol 906 c546W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether in view of the inflation of the United Kingdom and foreign currencies that has occurred since the duty-free limit on gifts imported from non-EEC countries was fixed at £10, he will now consider raising that limit.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Discussions are still proceeding on draft EEC instruments under which it is proposed that private gifts of a value up to £10 sent from individuals in non-EEC countries to persons in this country would be admissible free of customs charges. The value limit applying in this country has meanwhile been adjusted and takes account of the effects of inflation.
