§ 33. Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Employment what advice his Department extends to persons over 40 years old who complain of discrimination by employers on grounds of age.
§ Mr. GoldingSuch people are advised that the Government are in principle opposed to discrimination in employment on such grounds. I am informed that the offices of the Employment Service Agency, including the Professional and Executive Recruitment Service, do all they can to help older workers to find employment. They also seek to dissuade employers from putting arbitrary age limits on vacancies.
Employees who consider they have been unfairly dismissed may be eligible to complain to an industrial tribunal providing they have not reached the normal retiring age for their occupation or position or the age at which the State pension is payable, whichever is the earlier.
