§ Mr. Moonmanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects a further report from the Medical Aspect of Food (COMA) Committee on diet and heart disease.
§ Dr. OwenAs explained in detail in my reply to the hon. Member for Uxbridge (Mr. Shersby) on 17th May [Vol. 911, c.430–2] the Committee on Medical Aspects of Food Policy recently considered this subject in the light of the report and recommendation of the Joint Working Party of the Royal College of Physicians and the British Cardiac Society. The committee re-endorsed the advice of the Advisory Panel on Diet in relation to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease originally published in 1974. There are no current plans for a further report, but my Department is keeping the matter under review and will bring to the notice of the committee any new evidence on this subject, so that the committee can then reconsider the position.
