§ Mr. Clemitsonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportion of severely physically handicapped children of school age attends normal schools in England and Wales according to the latest estimates available; 350W and what are the corresponding figures for each of the preceding five years.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonWe have no information concerning specifically the severely physically handicapped. Physically handicapped pupils are, however, to be found in normal schools, both in ordinary classes and in designated special classes. Figures for the latter, which are the only ones available, show that 2.5 per cent. of all physically handicapped pupils in England and Wales included in LEA returns were in such classes in 1975. The corresponding percentages for 1974 and 1973 were 1.9 and 1.4. Comparable figures for earlier years are not available.
