HC Deb 14 June 1976 vol 913 cc38-9W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many veterinary officers are employed at the present time by local authorities in Scotland; whether there is any intention to increase this number; and, if so, on what grounds.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

Detailed information is not available as to the total numbers within particular professional groups employed by local authorities. It is understood, however, that the number of veterinary officers directly employed by local authorities in Scotland is small. Some increase in these numbers is expected over the next three years to enable local authorities to supervise the operation of Poultry Meat (Hygiene) Regulations shorly to be laid before Parliament.
