HC Deb 14 June 1976 vol 913 c52W
Mrs. Wise

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people will be entitled to claim the 50p premium for one-parent families, when family allowance of £l becomes payable to first children.

Mr. Orme

Child Benefit entirely replaces family allowances in April 1977. The purpose of the premium of 50p for one-parent families is to maintain the value of the benefit they now receive by way of child interim benefit, and the numbers entitled to claim will therefore be the same, with about 250,000 standing to gain from doing so.
