HC Deb 14 June 1976 vol 913 c19W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what are the latest figures for the value of production per employee in manufacturing industry in Wales, Scotland and England, respectively.

Mr. Les Huckfield

The latest year for which the information is available is 1972. It is estimated that in that year net output per person employed in manufacturing industry was as follows: Wales, £3,079; Scotland, £2,922; England, £2,921. Little significance should be attached to the differences between the above figures since they reflect the differing industrial structures, and capital-intensities, of the separate countries and also incorporate a substantial estimation for census returns covering addresses in two or more of the countries.
