§ Mr. Churchillasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the monthly value of food subsidies currently being received by Great Britain from the European Community.
§ Mr. StrangThere are various ways in which payments by the Community subsidise food prices in the United Kingdom. Payment of monetary compensatory amounts as import subsidies in the United Kingdom averaged £15 million a month in the three months ending 30th June, and in the same period the monthly Community contribution to our general butter subsidy averaged just over £1 million. Comparable figures are not available for payments made in other member States on their exports to us.
