HL Deb 29 July 1976 vol 373 cc1613-4WA
Lord BEAUMONT of WHITLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress has been made in the complete review of the United Kingdom's position in relation to those provisions of the European Social Charter (Cmnd. 2634) which they have not accepted, bearing in mind that they indicated on 16th May 1975 that circumstances would be propitious soon, that on 12th November 1975 they stated that they were waiting for the report of the Committee of Independent Experts and that that report was available over six months ago.

Lord JACQUES

Substantial progress has been made with the review of the provisions of the European Social Charter which were not accepted by the United Kingdom when it ratified the Charter in 1962, but additional information is required before decisions are taken. However, the United Kingdom expects to he able to accept certain further provisions of the Charter taking into account the views of the Committee of Independent Experts.
