Lord BRUCE of DONINGTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state, in respect of the year ended 31st December 1975 the total amount of investment from the original six countries of the EEC into the United Kingdom and the total amount of investment from the United Kingdom into those countries accompanied, in each case, by a clarification of such investment into the principal relevant economic categories and distinguishing, in particular, between investment in manufacturing industry, property development, banking and finance and services.

Lord ORAM

The latest information available is in respect of 1974 and relates to net direct investment in the United Kingdom, excluding oil and insurance, and net direct investment by the United Kingdom, excluding oil. An analysis of such investment by recipient industry is set out for individual countries and the other eight countries of the EEC in Tables 29 and 19 respectively of the Business Monitor M4 Overseas Transactions 1974. The confidentiality of information provided by individual companies precludes the provision of a detailed industrial analysis of the figures for the original six countries of the EEC and the information that can be disclosed is set out below.
